Almost all organizations list previous field experience as a prerequisite for employment, even placing it above graduate-level degrees. Don’t get lost in that all too familiar catch 22: "You need experience to get experience."
CANADEM GPS has seen 90% of our participants find follow-on work with the host agency or with an organization operating in the region.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be:

  • Available for the duration of the placement (at least six months);
  • Able to meet the financial requirements of the program;
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and sound writing skills;
  • A philosophical commitment to international development.

**$15,000 is the recommended sum to cover travel, insurance, housing and other living costs, but this can vary depending on the location of the placement. These funds are deposited with CANADEM before the placement and given back to the participant as tickets and insurance are purchased and as a monthly stipend. All unspent funds are returned to you at the end of the placement.

 

CANADEM's Guarantee: We believe strongly in the success of our training and employment strategies. If you follow our training plan and advice, and still fail to find employment within six months after the end of your placement, we will refund your $2,500 program fee. If you are comitted; so are we!

CIDA International Youth Internship Program (IYIP)

 


 

CIDA’s IYIP program is for Canadian graduates (ages 19 to 30 inclusive) which is part of the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). Canada's YES provides Canadian youth with tools and experience they need to launch successful careers.

The objectives of the International Youth Internship Program are:

· To provide eligible youth with international experience, skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future employment in a knowledge-based economy;

· To increase employment opportunities by promoting awareness among Canadian organizations of the advantages of integrating young Canadian professionals into their structures and programs;

· To provide opportunities for Canadians to increase their awareness, deepen their understanding and engage in international development;

· To contribute to the advancement of CIDA's mandate (reducing poverty, promoting human rights and increased sustainable development) and to meeting CIDA's priorities for Official Development Assistance.

  • A post-secondary graduate – graduate of a degree of diploma from a university, college, post-secondary school of technology, post-secondary institute or a CEGEP (college d’enseignement general et professionnel);

  • Unemployed or underemployed;
  • Available for 9 months;
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Able to manage their current financial obligations;
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and sound writing skills;
