CANADEM, supporting United Nations Resolution 1325 in expanding the role and contribution of women in UN field operations, promotes the registration and participation of professional women trough it's CANADEM 1325 Roster.
The UN Security Council Resolution 1325, unanimously adopted in October 2000, acknowledges the importance of the participation of women and the inclusion of gender perspectives in peace negociations, humanitarian planning, peacekeeping operations, post-conflict peacebuilding and governance.
The Resolution 1325 calls for increased participation of women in all levels of decision-making in national, regional and international institutions; the protection of women and girls from sexual and gender-based violence; the prevention of violence of women through the promotion of women's rights, accountability and law enforcement; and the mainstreaming of gender perspectives in peace operations.
The roster is comprised of women who possess expertise and experience in:

- Civil reconstruction
- Rule of law & human security
- Gender, child, minority & human rights
- Democratization
- Peacebuilding, peace reconciliation
- Gender, humanitarian, political & civil affairs

Individuals interested in registering should have:
- An advanced level university degree
- 5+ years of international experience in a developing country or conflict zone
- Fluency in English and another UN language
- The ability to live and work in difficult conditions

CANADEM has been actively involved in gender issues since 1997, sitting on national civilian and government gender and peacebuilding working groups, contributing to the Canadian development of the UN’s first “Gender and Peacekeeping” training course, and supporting the Canadian promotion of Resolution 1325.
