International Election Observation Project

Through its International Election Observation Project, CANADEM deploys Canadian Election Observers to multilateral Election Observation Missions (EOM) in developing countries. In the past ten years, with Canadian Government funding, We have deployed over 1,000 election experts across the world, including Europe, Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

These EOMs are undertaken by multilateral organizations, partners to CANADEM and CIDA  and who are recognized as long-standing experts in election observation. These include the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the European Union (EU) and  the United Nations (UN). Through the International Election Observation Project, CANADEM also provides assistance to various multilateral organizations seeking electoral specialists: the Organization for American States (OAS), the Comonwealth Secretariat, and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).

The deployment of Canadian election observers contributes to raising awareness and deepening understanding at home of Canada's involvement in supporting democratic governance abroad. Moreover, it contributes to a larger goal of assisting developing countries in holding genuine elections in line with national and international election standards.

CANADEM manages the International Election Observation Project with financial support from the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
